From ordinary L-shaped hex keys, good wood cutters for a lathe can be made. Such a simple but useful home-made can do for every master (even a beginner).

The first step is to grind the side faces on the bent part of the Allen key. This can be done on a belt grinder.

Next, it will be necessary to grind the edge of the hexagon at an angle, forming the cutting edge of the future wood cutter. This master does already on the grinding machine (emery).

The main stages of work

After the cutting edge of the homemade cutter is formed and sharpened, the master proceeds to manufacture the handle. To do this, he uses wooden billets (bars). First he makes octagons from them, and then grinds them on a lathe.

Having given the workpieces the necessary shape, the master drills a hole for the "shank" of the L-shaped hex key. Then, from a copper tube, he makes "clips" - crimp rings. They must be fixed in the place where the metal "joins" with the wood.

At the last stage, it will only be necessary to "put" the hexagon in the handle on epoxy glue and coat the handle itself with varnish (or, for example, wax).
