Mud tires on a car from old tires

Snow chains are often used when driving on the road (sometimes even in winter if there is no studding). However, there is a more budget option - “shoes” from an old tire.

The tire size for such a device needs to be selected individually, there is no universal size. However, you can use a tire of the same diameter as the wheel itself.

And you can take a size larger (in this case it will be easier to put on). For example, if you have 175 70 13 wheels, then you can put 175 65 14 tires on them.

When using such a cheap "shoe" (the necessary tires can be taken at any point of tire fitting), a budget "mud rubber" is obtained, which will help improve the cross-country ability of non-wheel drive cars. Yes, and for all-wheel drive is also suitable, as an alternative to snow chains.

The main stages of work

First of all, with the help of chalk, mark the tire in those places where it will be necessary to make cuts with a grinder. Please note that the rubber heats up and melts, as a result of which the cutting disc loses speed, so do not overdo it much.

If you are unsure of using a grinder, then it is better to use an electric jigsaw. Then you need to cut out small pieces of rubber with a knife, trying to do this as accurately as possible. Also cut out the inside of the tire.

The result is a ready-made shoe that can only be put on the wheel. If desired, you can cut the rubber in one place and make ties on the carabiners, as on chains. However, the author claims that the tire is relatively easy to put on. So why then do the extra work?
