For the manufacture of a homemade cutter, the usual pedal from a bicycle is quite suitable - you can even use the old one. Moreover, the "age" of the bike itself does not play a fundamental role: for example, the pedal can be borrowed from the Soviet "Tourist", "Stork" or "Schoolboy", as well as a more modern bike.
If the pedal is very old, then first of all we clean the metal from dirt and rust. Then we cut off the part of the pedal on which the foot rests on the grinder. We heat it red with a gas burner, and then on the anvil we give a suitable shape.
Forged in this way the workpiece is processed on a belt grinder, giving it the shape of a groove. The final finishing is done manually with sandpaper. Pay attention that there are no deep grooves in the area of the cutting edge.
Cutter handle manufacturing
Before making a wooden handle, we form the cutting edge of the cutter, then we sharpen and harden. To do this, we heat the area of the cutting edge red-hot and lower it into a container with water.
The handle of the cutter itself can be made of solid wood cuttings. Cut off the bar of the desired size, round it and give the desired shape. In the center, we drill a longitudinal hole and set the tail of the cutter to the moment glue or another.
