To make a homemade orbital sander, you need a 12-volt DC gear motor that can be removed from the car wipers. You will also need a standard grinding nozzle with Velcro ("plate") for the grinder.

With a rotation speed of about 72 rpm, this engine is very powerful. When you click on it, it does not stop. However, it should be noted that a full-fledged grinding machine from such an electric motor will not work due to low revs.

A homemade orbital machine from the gearbox from the car wipers is quite suitable for grinding small parts and small wooden blanks. In addition, this is one of the options for using old car parts that are idle in a garage or workshop.

How to make an orbital machine

To dock the grinding nozzle with the gear shaft from the car wipers, you can go the hard way - make a special adapter, or the simple way - cut the back of the "plate" with a hacksaw for metal. In this case, it is easier to use the second option.

After we cut off the unwanted part, we grind the surface of the Velcro nozzle to remove bumps and burrs from the saw blade. Then we drill four holes in a plastic gear, and fasten the "plate" to the screws.

That's just how you can make an orbital machine from a gearbox from auto wipers. Glue the grinding wheel of the desired diameter, cut out of sandpaper to the Velcro, and then you can begin to work.

The complete process of making a homemade orbital sander from a gearbox from car wipers is in the video on the website.
