Decided to do blacksmithing and casting? Then a special melting furnace is indispensable. And for starters, you can get by with a mini-oven, which is easy to do with your own hands. This home-made design is suitable for both smelting various metals and for hardening finished products.

At the same time, the mini-oven has compact dimensions, compared with the factory models, and therefore is ideal for a home workshop or garage. For the manufacture of the working chamber, a thick-walled steel pipe with a diameter of approximately 230 mm is used. It will also require some other materials, but first things first.

Mini smelting manufacturing process

First of all, it is necessary to cut a piece with a length of 39-40 cm from a pipe with a diameter of 23 cm. For this, marking is preliminarily done - we measure the desired distance, put the “identification” marks and paste masking tape or simply wrap it with paper so that you can see the line along which you need to cut.

We clean the cutting sites with a grinder to remove the burrs. Then we put the pipe on a sheet of metal and draw a circle - we cut out the plug. We weld the pipe and plug together. We insert a steel profile inside the pipe with sides 80x80 or 100x100 mm. The space between them is filled with a special refractory gypsum mortar.

We wait until the solution hardens a bit and pull out the square profile. In the lower part, by welding, we burn a hole and weld an inch pipe (you can choose a different size), to which an air blower is connected. In the upper part we fix the handles so that the oven can be moved.
