In this article, we will consider how to quickly restore an old ax in your own home so that it is not only pleasant to look at, but you can also work with it.
Since we are talking about an old ax, it is quite obvious that its surface will be covered with rust, and the ax itself will be either broken or cracked. Therefore, first we disassemble the ax into its components, leaving only the upper part, which must be cleaned of dirt and rust. And for this, solutions based on various acids or formalin with ammonium can be used.

While the ax accepts "water procedures", we will not waste time in vain and make a new ax. To do this, we select a wooden blank of suitable sizes - the length of the handle can be arbitrary (at your discretion). After we cut the ax of the desired shape on a band saw or a hand jigsaw, we refine it with a joiner's plane.
Next, we clean the ax from rust with a metal brush, and then cover it with a solution of phosphoric or phosphoric acid, so that a protective film appears on the metal surface, which will prevent the destruction of the material. If desired, metal burnishing can also be done. This procedure is simple, and the result is excellent.
