One of the easiest ways to protect your bike from theft, especially if you constantly have to leave it unattended in a big city, is to use a regular bicycle lock with a U-shaped handle. It has long been noticed that the presence of even such basic protection makes two-wheeled vehicles less attractive to thieves.

Since factory bike locks are quite expensive, you can make a padlock with a do-it-yourself secret. Although such a lock for a bicycle does not provide 100% protection against thieves, however, it will be able to accurately complicate its hijacking as much as possible. To make such a self-made bicycle lock with a secret, you need a regular screwdriver and a steel square.

The manufacturing process of the "cunning" padlock

We heat the steel rod of a screwdriver with a flat tip with a gas burner red-hot and bend it into a U-shaped handle. The tip also needs to be heated and slightly flattened. The excess parts are cut off by a grinder. Then we drill several holes in a steel square 24x24 mm (if necessary, you can take a larger piece), having made preliminary marking.

At the next stage of work, we drill additional through holes in the end and lateral parts, and we fasten the plates of steel plates on both sides. It is also necessary to make a through hole in the handle of the castle. The key will be a regular nail. Of course, you can figure out how to open the bike lock, but it will take some time. A homemade bicycle lock with a secret is a great alternative to Chinese cable locks.
