If you really need to decorate the room with candles - for some special date or holiday, but there is nothing to put them in, it is not necessary to buy something standard and ready-made. You can always make beautiful and unusual candlesticks from paper with your own hands, from wood, cans, plastic, bottles, cups and even from vintage ladles.
Today we will talk about two ways to make a candlestick with your own hands. Each master class gives room for imagination, because on their basis you can easily do something your own.
Lotus-shaped plastic disposable spoon holder
To work on two candlesticks, we need:
- plastic spoons - the amount depending on the size of the base and the size of the spoons themselves,
- wire cutters
- glue gun
- two pill candles
- two small glass piles.
- For spoons, use the nippers to remove the handles. They will not be useful to us in work. We trim the rounded part from the bottom where the handle was, so that the part becomes as flat as possible.
- We put a drop of glue from the glue gun on the lower part of the workpiece and glue it onto the stack with the concave side inward. It is not necessary to glue from the very bottom of the pile, but slightly stepping up from it. The next workpiece is placed next to the first so that their side parts are in contact with each other. The third and fourth also. Note that it is better if the diameter of the stack or cup is such that it can stick plastic blanks next to each other around the circle. In our case, exactly four pieces of plastic spoons fit in a circle.
- We make the next round. This time, we glue the blanks between the first, stepping a little down. We form the third row in the same way. This time we glue the parts between the elements of the second row, gluing them from the very bottom of the stack. In the fifth row, the glue is applied not only to the lower part of the workpiece from the spoon, but also to the side parts in order to stick it both from the bottom of the stack and to the parts with which it is in contact. We glue between the elements of the previous row, but we place the lower part on the same level with them. In the video, the whole process is shown very clearly.
The result should get very similar to a real lotus flower. We put inside the candle-pill and set it on fire. In the dark, this beautiful candlestick looks especially impressive.
If you want to get a brighter version, you can paint the finished candlestick using spray paint of any color you wish. So that it does not melt from the fire of a candle, it is better to take a glass or stack wider so that the flame does not touch the plastic.
Coffee bean candle holder
What can it be made of? For work, the following materials and devices will be useful to us:
- a foam mold with a height of 2 centimeters with an outer diameter of 10 centimeters, an inner one - 5 centimeters. It can be cut independently from a piece of foam with a sharp clerical knife, simply marking it, for example, on the lid of a can,
- coffee beans,
- brown acrylic paint and brush
- cardboard or plastic
- glue gun
- beads of gold color.
The foam mold should resemble a bagel in shape, that is, it should have the same rounded edges. As soon as the form is ready, it must be painted with brown paint so that the finished white background under the coffee beans does not spoil the entire appearance of the product.
From cardboard or plastic, cut a circle slightly larger than the inner diameter of the foam blank and paint it in the same color. When everything is dry, apply glue to its outer edge with a gun and glue the part from below to the foam ring.
After that, you can proceed to the decor of the candlestick. Apply glue to coffee beans and stick them on the mold over the entire surface as densely as possible to each other. The gaps between the grains can be decorated with beads of zloty color, placing them freely over the entire surface of the candlestick.
That's all - the candlestick is ready! It can be done quickly, despite the apparent painstaking and time-consuming. If you make a candlestick with coffee beans as a gift, it will be perfectly complemented by candles with your own hands.
And now we will give some more options of how to make beautiful candlesticks for different occasions and how quickly and without any special expenses.
Candlesticks made of wood and branches
From the branches, using a drill, you can make a long candlestick for table decor. On a branch, which can be of interesting shape, you need to outline the places for the candle, and then drill holes. Clean them and put candles.
From wooden blanks in the form of a cube or parallelepiped, it is possible to make candle holders with geometric and not only drawings. The blanks themselves, white paint, stickers in the shape of a circle and a drill with a nozzle for drilling round holes are useful for them. Its diameter should be equal to the diameter of the candle that you will use. In the center of the workpiece, make a hole with a drill about two and a half centimeters deep. Now you can stick the stickers a little on top of each other around the entire perimeter of the wooden part just below its middle. Paint the upper part to the middle of the stickers. It is better to apply the paint in two or even three layers and wait until it dries. Remove stickers and put candles. So you can apply your pattern, take blanks of a different shape and paint in a different color.
And to finish the topic of wooden candlesticks, let us dwell on the option of hemp from birch with birch bark. Everything is simple here: you need to drill a round hole in the upper part, so that the diameter is equal to the diameter of the candle-pill, and put the candle. Perhaps, for a stable composition, it is better to tie three such hemp with candles together with a hemp rope.
Glass candle holders
Two variants of candlesticks are easily created from bottles. The first, when the bottom of a wine bottle is removed using simple manipulations. It is necessary to outline the cut line with a glass cutting device, open hot water and pour it onto the bottle, slowly turning it in a circle, then repeat this with cold water. The bottle itself will crack along the line. Next, you need to take a candle, light it, cover it with a bottle without a bottom.
And the second version of the candlestick from the bottle is somewhat reminiscent of the one that we made from wooden blanks in the shape of a cube. Bottles, knitted or paper napkins, paint spray and gloves are useful for him. Do not forget to protect the layer with newspaper or film, so as not to spoil it during work. With a napkin you need to wrap the bottle, apply paint, wait until everything is dry and remove the napkin. So you can decorate bottles without a bottom, or you can install long candles in the throat of whole decorated bottles.
From a can, you can create a real marine candlestick. A mesh with large cells and threads is useful for him. You need to wrap the jar with a net, and then fix it at the neck with a thread.
It’s even easier to make a candlestick from a glass with your own hands. It is enough to turn it over, place it inside the flowers, for example, or a figure, and put a candle on the leg. This is an option for those who have absolutely no time left to come up with something.
A variety of candlesticks in five minutes
Tin cans will make unusual candlesticks for giving, for example, if they are painted, and then perforated in the form of a pattern. The more holes you get, the more light the candlestick will give. Also, with his own hands, the master can make a paper candlestick by folding a sheet of paper with a cylinder and making perforation on it.
Unusual candlesticks are perfectly molded from salt dough, regular clay or plastic. In the first and second cases, the made element will need to be painted after baking, and in the third - only bake according to the rules.
If there is absolutely no time to glue or drill, you can do without it. You just need to take a tall glass vase with a wide neck, pour sand into it, put seashells and stick a few long candles. Alternatively, you can stay on the water. Pour water into a wide glass vase, place flowers or oranges, cut into circles so that they completely hide under the water, and lower the floating candles from above.
As you can see, candle holders can be made in general from any materials, to take for decoration everything that comes to mind. The main thing is that combustible materials do not touch the flame of the candle for your own safety, but otherwise there are no restrictions.
