How to get a key chip from a lock

In life, there are many cases where failure catches a surprise. And basically, a person is not ready for it. For example, it so happened that a key broke in the lock and a piece remained inside the lock cylinder. What to do? Well, of course, if the chip sticks out enough to hook it with pliers with thin lips, then everything is clear: we hook on the tip and pull it out. But what if the key is broken and the chip does not stick out?
I will show you two reliable ways of how to remove a broken key, leaving the lock absolutely working after all the manipulations.

We remove the key chip from the lock

Before proceeding directly to extraction, it is imperative to arrange the key groove exactly vertically, since if the moving cylinder of the larva is not vertical, the key will be impossible to remove.

Method One: Scissors

As a rule, a stuck chip can be tipped with a tip of a pair of scissors. The scissors are easy to get, their ends are in most cases always sharp. Therefore, we insert the tip into the recess and creating an effort on the chip and in the direction of its extraction, we try to pull out this fragment.

In thirty percent of cases, this method works, of course, it all depends on how the key was broken.

In this case, I show clearly that everything worked out, although I still had to tinker.
Scissors are just an example, as they are easier to find. But in general, an awl, a sharp knife and other items will do.

Second way: drilling a groove

Now we turn to a complex method, but more effective.
The theory is this: in the immediate vicinity of the debris, it is necessary to drill a groove with a thin drill (1.5-2 mm). To do this, parallel to the key you need to drill a hole to a depth of about 2 mm. Then, from the side, drill a hole, turning it into a groove. And then at the same time, at the same time, drill a key fragment itself, for a better hook.

So let's get started. Do it better with a cordless screwdriver. We drill a hole at a distance of about 1 mm from the groove and a depth of about 1.5-2 mm.

Next, we turn the drill at an angle and drill obliquely.

Here you need to be especially careful, as the drill can be easily broken. Especially if it accidentally jumps off. In no case should you rush.
If the groove is even, we drill a piece of the key.

Well, then we take the scissors and take out the chip without too much effort.

The tip fits perfectly in the groove and in the hole to the key.

We got this stub.

Checking the operation of the larva

Now, check the bot for performance. We insert another key and turn.

First one way, then the other way.

The lock is fully operational.

Now you need to determine the reasons why the key was broken and eliminate them.
And in order not to encounter such problems, you need to more often lubricate all parts of the lock and make sure that everything works without jamming.
