Even from old garden shears covered with a layer of rust, you can make an original blade for a personal collection of knives. If you are seriously interested in making knives, you might like this idea.

The first step is to dismantle the garden shears and remove the wooden handles. After that, the author aligns one of the halves on the anvil.

In fact, it turned out already a full-fledged blank for a knife. You just need to refine it a little. To do this, the master transfers the contours of the workpiece to paper and draws a future sketch of the blade.

The main stages of work

Since the workpiece is very rusty (apparently, the scissors themselves were on the street for a long time), it is necessary to clean it with a cord brush. Then the author processes the canvas on the grinder (who does not know, this is a belt grinder).

At the next stage, the master cuts out a paper template of the future blade and transfers it to the workpiece itself. With the help of a grinder, the contours of the knife are cut. The work is painstaking, but in a different way it will not work. Then you still have to work a little file.

Further, the author performs the standard procedure for hardening the blade, and also makes the tempering of the workpiece in an electric oven. The blade is almost ready. Now you only need to make a wooden handle and sharpen the blade on the grinder.
