If you want to make the kitchen interior in the Scandinavian style, then the countertop, as well as the rest of the elements, must correspond to the chosen design. In this review, the author shows a master class on making an unusual countertop in the kitchen from ceramic tiles in the form of bars.

First of all, laminated plywood in two layers with overlapping joints is laid on the installed cabinets (that is, the seams are ligated). This is necessary for the solidity of the base.

After that, it will be necessary to remove all debris on the surface of the plywood (ideally, vacuum it). Since the countertop is laid out from small tiles, it is necessary that the base is perfectly even. In this case, the author checks the horizontal with the help of a building laser level.

The main stages of work

Before starting work, the surface of the plywood must be sanded with sandpaper for better adhesion to the tile. The author begins to lay out the herringbone tile, starting from the inner corner. In this case, parquet glue is used.

The "openings" in the countertop are temporarily covered with plywood, and tiles are laid on top, but without glue. Then the tile is removed, and the plywood is removed. Open areas are laid with tiles. Thus, the pattern will be the same across the surface of the countertop.

For grouting, use ready-made or dry mix of Ceresit. After the grout has dried, the seams are additionally treated with an impregnation prepared on the basis of acrylic parquet varnish mixed with water in a ratio of 1: 1.

The end of the countertop is “sheathed” with an oak plank. As a result, the kitchen worktops really turned out to be very unusual. See the video on the site for more details.
