The main stages of work
To make a simple scriber for metal with your own hands, as well as a core with a handle, you will need two old automobile valves that have long been "unwound", which must first be sharpened under the cone on one side, and then sharpen the end. For these purposes, you can use a conventional grinder with a mounted flap disc or belt grinder.
After sharpening, the tool must be hardened, otherwise there will be little sense from it - for this you can use a conventional gas burner with a spray can.
After heating, the pointed edge must be lowered into a container with oil. One tool at this stage is ready - a metal scriber. To make a core with a handle, this handle must be welded to the pointed valve stem. You can make it from a round steel bar.
