With the help of a homemade blacksmith hammer made of wood and metal, it will be possible to level or bend hot workpieces, minimizing the likelihood of deformation. Such a tool is useful in the manufacturing process of various decorative products or in the art of forging metal.

The process of making a blacksmith mallet

The first step is to make an eye for a wooden handle. To do this, we take a piece of pipe of suitable length, heat it in the furnace red-hot, and then slightly flatten it on the anvil. Then we drill in the center a through hole for attaching to a wooden handle.

You will also need another small piece of steel pipe - first we do the marking, and then we drill four holes. After that, with the help of a grinder, we make one longitudinal cut for the entire length and several short ones. We grind the surface, and then weld the eye for the handle to the pipe.

At the next stage, we insert a wooden round suitable in diameter into the pipe, and then we put the head of a mallet on the handle. We connect with bolts and nuts. To do this, you must first drill through holes in the wooden parts. Thus, the two-sided firing pin on the head of the forge mallet is interchangeable, which is very convenient.

The tool itself is lightweight, compact, as well as versatile and practical to use, since it can be used for various operations with hot metal. For a detailed process of making a homemade mallet for forging, see the video on our website.
