For convenient machining of wooden or metal parts and workpieces, you can use a simple home-made file made of wood and a strip of sandpaper. Such a tool can be used at home, in the country, as well as in a garage or workshop.

To make a homemade file you will need a wooden block with a thickness of 15 mm with a side size of 28x4 cm. As a basis, you can use a suitable piece of plywood or OSB. The role of the abrasive coating will be performed by the emery strip of the desired grain size.

The main stages of work

We mark out a wooden block, after which we make two shallow cuts with a hand hacksaw (if you are too lazy to cut, you can do this on a circular). Then, using a chisel, select a wide groove and process its edges with a file on a tree.

We cut out two small cubes of wood or plywood, and drill holes in them. We insert one bar into the groove and fasten it with screws.

We fix the second bar to the end of the wooden base. Then, using a hand jigsaw, cut out the handle.

The file handle needs to be slightly trimmed with a clerical knife or a chisel, and then processed with sandpaper.

The surface of the wooden bar is covered with mineral oil or varnish. Then cut off a strip of sandpaper of the desired width and fasten it to the file.

The result was a very simple and easy-to-use tool for the home workshop. For more information on how to make a hand file from wood and sandpaper, see the video on the website.
